Friendship Quilt Along: Block 1

June 01, 2018

Happy June Quilters! Today is the kickoff of the Friendship Quilt Along!

Have you heard about this fabulous summer project? Designed by Amanda Herring Designs, this fabulous quilt will be sewn, one block at a time from now through August by quilting friends around the country!

The pattern is available for free here. You’ll also need to order a set of these handy templates.

I’m sewing my quilt with Amanda Herring’s new fabric line, Hello Lovely. It’s gorgeous! If you’d like to sew with Hello Lovely, you can find a quilt kit here.

Now that you know the details of the Friendship Quilt Along, I thought I’d share my first block! This block is called Fun and there are two of them in the Friendship Quilt.

This was my first time making an appliqué block using templates to create the pieces and I have to say…I loved it! I traced around my templates with a fat sharpie and cut on the inside of the traced lines. My pieces turned out so nice!

Being a Button Lover, of course I had to add some extra buttons to my blocks!

I had some “help” making my blocks this week…

For my quilt, I’m using the fusible appliqué technique because I love how quick it is and I prefer the raw-edge look but you can use any applique technique you like! Check out designer, Amanda Herring’s blog post where she shows how to use prepared hand appliqué and shadow appliqué to make the Fun Block.

I hope you’ll join me and my little helper in this Quilt Along this summer!

Until next week!

Rachel
